Installing Workshop's plugins

In order to work with 3D meshes/models with TSR Workshop, you’ll probably have to install a set of plug-ins depending on which 3D software you are using. First, you’ll need to install Workshop. Once Workshop has been installed, there are plugins for both Milkshape 3D and Blender 3D. These plug-ins are located in an “Extras” folder wherever you have installed Workshop to.

The default installation location for these plug-ins is: C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims Resource\TSR Workshop\Extras in which you will find a folder for each Blender and Milkshape. (If you have installed Workshop into a different location, this path will be different.)

Milkshape3D

To install the plug-ins for Milkshape3D, browse to the Extras folder mentioned above, and go into the folder for “Milkshape Plugins.” Within this folder, there will be two DLL files:

  • msTSRWorkshopExport.dll
  • msTSRWorkshopImport.dll

You need to copy these two files, and paste them into the root directory of wherever you have installed Milkshape. By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\MilkShape 3D 1.8.5. but may vary if you have installed Milkshape into a different location. Once the plugin files have been placed into the root Milkshape folder, if you open the Milkshape application, you should now have options for “TSRW Object” in both the Import and the Export menu.

Blender 3D

Note: The plug-ins are labeled as being for Blender 2.74, but they should be functional for any version of blender in the 2.7X line. They are NOT compatible with Blender 2.8X or 3.X.

Method 1:

Open Blender, and then go into File > User Preferences. Go to the Add Ons tab. At the bottom of the window, click the “Install Add-on from File…” button.

Browse to the Extras path mentioned above, and go into the Blender 2.74 folder. Select one of the .py files, and then click the Install button. Click “Install Add-on from File…” a second time, and this time, select the other .py file that you did not select last time. Click the Install button. (Blender will let you select both at the same time, but

Browse through the list of plug-ins (you can filter by Import-Export again) to find the Import and Export plug-ins for WSO Object. Make sure that they are both displaying a checkmark, and then click Save User Settings so that Blender will remember to automatically activate these plugins.

You should now have options for WSO Object under both the Import and Export menu, indicated with a plug icon to show that they are from a plugin.

Method 2:

To install the plug-ins into Blender, browse to the Extras folder mentioned above, and go into the folder for Blender 2.74. There will be two .py files:

  • io_wso_export.py
  • io_wso_import.py

Copy these two .py files, and browse to wherever you have installed Blender. Within the 2.7X folder, open the “scripts” folder, and then the “addons” folder. Paste the two .py files into this folder.

Once those files are in place, open Blender. Go into your User Preferences via File > User Preferences. Within the preferences window, go to the Add Ons tab, and then filter by Import-Export. Somewhere in the list of add ons, there is an option for both Export WSO Object and Import WSO Object - find them both, and make sure they are both displayed with a checkmark in order to activate them. Once they are both checked, click the “Save User Settings” button so that Blender will automatically enable them from now on.

You should now have options for WSO Object under both the Import and Export menu, indicated with a plug icon to show that they are from a plugin.
